This work explores organocatalysis, some of the more significant advances in organocatalysis throughout history and methods most commonly used in various organocatalytic reactions. The use of oxindole, isatin and their derivatives as starting compounds in the field of organocatalysis is very prevalent because of their bioactivity. Furthermore, many derivatives are, for the reasons listed, used as pharmaceuticals in various drugs. In addition, the synthesis of 5-fluoroindoline-2,3-dione derived isothiocyanates are presented in more detail.
