Abstract
Za seznanjanje Evrope z Daljnim vzhodom so v visokem srednjem veku imeli poleg Marka Pola zasluge štirje manjši bratje, ki so s svojimi spisi prispevali k večanju zanimanja in posledično boljšemu poznavanju tega dela sveta. Manjši bratje so vzpostavljali stike med evropskimi dvori in deželami Daljnega vzhoda in so v tem delu sveta ustanovili prve krščan-ske skupnosti. Na temelju njihovih poročil so Evropejci začeli izdelovati zemljevide. Ker so bili dobri poznavalci krajev, ljudi in navad, so njihovi zapisi pomenili obogatitev evropskega zna-nja o Aziji, hkrati pa so spodbujali nadaljnje stike, izmenjavo dobrin in načrtovanje podobnih dejavnosti.

Title:Medieval travel journals of Franciscan friars as a historic source
Abstract:
Besides Marco Polo's travel journal, four journals of Brothers Minor informed Europe about the Far East and contributed to increased interest and consequently to a better knowledge of that part of the world. On that basis, the Europeans started detailing geographical maps. Friars had established contacts between the European courts and the Far East countries and founded the first Christian communities in those parts of the world. They were very attentive observers of the places, people, and customs, thus their descriptions brought enrichment to European knowledge of Asia, at the same time giving ideas for further contacts, exchange of goods, and the planning for similar activities. More attention is given to the journal of Br. Odoric of Friuli who has been considered one of the four important me-dieval travellers since his lifetime. Br. Odoric set out for his journey as an experienced friar, well educated, with a rich pastoral experience, and a good reputation.
