Bachelor's thesis deals with the use of biography as a method of working with people with dementia. In the theoretical part, I presented an understanding of dementia, social work with people with dementia, communication, and activities for people with dementia as well as the importance of biography and personal planning in the provision of assistance to people with dementia. I researched the use of a biography and personal plan when working with people with dementia in homes for older people. I was interested in the experiences of social workers in homes for older people using a biography. To determine whether there are any particular specific details of the use of biographical methods to help people with dementia, what kind of personal plans are made at the homes for older people, and how these plans present the biography of a person with dementia. I was also interested in what social workers could gain by using the biographical method and the knowledge of it. The qualitative study involved seven social workers working in homes for older people. I chose the interview as the data collection method. The findings show that the use of biography and a personal plan has a positive impact on the work of people with dementia. Communication between employees and residents with dementia is improved, and it is easier to involve the residents in activities of the home if they know his life story. I suggest teamwork to create a biography, as in this way all employees who are in contact with a person with dementia would be acquainted with the biography. At the same time, I suggest that employees in the home also acquaint volunteers and other people who come into contact with a resident with dementia with the biography of the person with dementia.
