By allowing innovation and reducing transaction costs, platform business models have revolutionised different industries. Platforms drive much of their values from the communities they serve and allow the community to share resources. Industries characterised with limited-resource-communities have witnessed the advantages of such models. In the construction industry there is a mass of small and medium enterprises with limited resources. The construction industry could therefore also benefit from such a model. To demonstrate a use case, the thesis proposed to solve one of the industry’s issues - model based collaboration - using a platform. There are different solutions that provide a collaboration environment in the industry but the thesis tried to provide a platform-based collaboration system. The prototype platform tried to defragment the industry’s data structures and create linked data. However, a more general database schema is essential. Overall, approaching the industry’s issues using a platform business model resulted in involving more communities in the solution and in new features that were difficult to achieve otherwise.
