Violence is a behavior with which we want to primarily harm, insult and hurt someone. Verbal abuse is a form of violence that is considered to be the largest and at the same time the most common form of violence, which is very often used among adolescents. When violence appears, some experts play a very important role, in which they must have zero tolerance for violence in their work. Prolonged violence in particular has a negative impact on a child's healthy development, as the consequences are visible in various areas. In the theoretical part, I first defined abuse and terminology related to violence. This is followed by types of violence, structural or systemic abuse, and institutional abuse, which is not very known to most of the people. The main theme of the thesis is verbal abuse, in which I focused on the forms and consequences that appear in the victims. I also presented the violence committed against children with special needs. An important part of my researching work includes school violence, where I researched peer abuse and took a deeper look at school violence and the role of professionals. As a good example of practice, I have included peer mediation, which I think can be very good in many cases. The thesis also involves the results of the latest research, domestic and foreign legislation for the prevention of violence. It also consists of an empirical part, in which 624 Slovenian experts are involved. With an online survey, I tried to research verbal violence in Slovenian kindergartens and primary schools, as well as the opinion of experts on this form of violence. The results showed that verbal abuse is very common because children use it several times. What has proven to be very positive is that all the participating experts have zero tolerance for any kind of violence. They feel competent to recognize different forms of violence and know how to redirect children to other permissive forms to achieve their own goals.
