The rapid development of information and communication technology (ICT) affects the development of the business environment. Companies must follow it to be successful. We examined and exactly described ICT, suitable for manufacturing companies. Based on this we developed 2 models of information infrastructure: 1 for large and 1 for small woodworking companies. We checked the real status of ICT in Slovenian timber companies using a questionnaire and compared the models with the results. We found that the model for major timber companies is closer to the real status in terms of identification and tracking technology, while the model for smaller woodworking businesses is closer in some other aspects. In general, we can conclude that the companies participating in the survey, are relatively well-supported by modern ICT.
