Viscoelastic thermal compressed (VTC) wood has due to its high density considerably better mechanical properties, and therefore, expresses a great potential for the development of the high quality wood products. The wider application is limited, among others, also because its weak resistance to the wood decay fungi. The thermal modification is one of the methods able to improve the resistance of wood against wood decay fungi. By applying the VTC compressions and the thermal modifications of wood the synergy effects were achieved, and material preserving the positive features of both procedures gained. The thermal modified VTC wood is significantly more resistant to fungi than the non-compressed wood or the non-modified VTC wood.
