Abstract

Title:Promotion of a healthy lifestyle in an extended elementary school programme
Abstract:
The purpose of the master’s thesis was to study and analyse the efficiency of a project called Participation, Self-Engagement, Co-Creation and Research on Healthy Lifestyle (hereinafter called PLASOR) on pupils’ knowledge and point of view when it comes to healthy lifestyle and their know-how of relaxation techniques. Action research, which was based on qualitative research paradigm, helped the author to establish the efficiency of the PLASOR project applying three action steps among 12-year-olds attending grade 4 and 5. It was done by analysing the results of MI-PGS questionnaire. The MI-PGS is an abbreviation which stands for a measuring device that measures pupils’ eating habits, the amount of exercise they do and how they detect stress and cope with it. Pupils were tested twice, before we started and after we finished the project. The difference between the results of the first and second questionnaire helped the author to evaluate the efficiency of the PLASOR project which lasted for 5 months, from February to June 2019. The programme consisted of activities planned and executed by pupils. The active engagement, participation, cooperation, co-creation, inner motivation, interest and research of pupils helped them to find ways to do the activities which improved their eating habits, increased the amount of exercise and enabled them to learn different relaxation techniques and were able to use them. The analysis has shown that the PLASOR project has contributed to the better knowledge of pupils when it comes to healthy eating habits and improvement in the area of exercise and sports activities. Moreover, the results have shown that their knowledge of relaxation techniques increased by 70%.
