Abstract
S svojim diplomskim delom sem želela raziskati pogostnost nabiranja samoniklih rastlin in razširjenost znanja o njihovi uporabnosti na kmetijah v različnih slovenskih regijah.

Title:Use of wild plants in farm households in Slovenia
Abstract:
In my thesis I wanted to research the frequency of gathering wild plants and the prevalence of knowledge of how to make use of plant parts on farmsteads in various Slovene regions. I wanted to determine, which autogenous plants are most often gathered and in what ways they are being used. I was interested in how widespread gathering wild plants in Slovenia is and how much knowledge of the use of wild plants people have. Results indicate that black elderberry (Sambucus nigra) is most often gathered. There are 59 plants from 33 botanical families documented to be the most often used for medicinal purposes and less as part of a diet. Participants prefer gathering wild plants on their own agricultural lands because they are certain that the plants growing there are uncontaminated and pure. They gain their knowledge of identifying plants from the internet and written sources. They obtain most of information about different uses verbally. With my work I want to contribute to researches about preserving knowledge about useful wild plants, as loss of such information would negatively influence the ability of survival and self-sufficiency of the Slovene nation. Human beings nowadays are more and more estranged from the natural environment and I feel it is important to encourage and maintain the connection between people and nature.
