In my thesis, I have analysed five plays written by Slovene author Anton Leskovec: Jurij Plevnar, Sovodenj, Dva bregova, Kraljična Haris and Vera in nevera. First, I provided information on their origin, possible publication and staging, and literary reviews that followed each of the plays. After that, I have focused on the plots, and how the characters are portrayed. I concluded that Leskovec’s works differ not only in themes and motifs, but also in style. Although the author is considered a representative of the Expressionism, his works, besides Expressionist elements, exhibit elements of the New or Social Realism. Leskovec strived towards the latter in senior period of his life. To determine the influence of either literary movement, I have observed how and to which extent elements, typical of each of the movements, appear in each of Leskovec’s dramas. While the most expressionist play is Kraljična Haris, the most socially realistic one is Vera in nevera.
