Abstract
V teoretičnem delu magistrskega dela raziskujem pojem ilustracije in ugotavljam, ali se je kot posledica slikovnega obrata, ki se je zgodil v osemdesetih letih prejšnjega stoletja, odnos ilustracije do besede kaj spremenil. V ta namen podajam opredelitev ilustracije, določam njene funkcije in oblike pojavljanja. Nadalje sledim in povzemam razmišljanja W.J.T. Mitchella o slikovnem obratu in v zadnjem poglavju razglabljam o odnosu ilustracije do besede. Raziskujem ga preko razmerja odvisnosti ilustracije od verbalnega sporočila pa vse do avtonomnosti ilustracije; ilustracija se v odnosu do besede tako lahko pojavlja v obliki kompozitne umetnosti, pojavlja se kot diafanična ilustracija ali pa kot ilustracija znotraj razširjenega polja ilustracije. Praktičen del posvečam ilustraciji, ki se pojavlja v obliki kompozitne umetnosti; moja naloga je bila ilustrirati zbirko japonskih pravljic, ki jih je zbral in prevedel Andrej Bekeš. S tem namenom sem raziskala japonske lesoreze ukiyo-e in opravila formalno likovno analizo lesoreza iz zbirke Slovenske akademije znanosti in umetnosti. To mi je omogočilo, da pri ilustriranju iščem likovni jezik na presečišču med likovnim jezikom japonskih lesorezov in svojim avtorskim jezikom. Končni izdelek praktičnega dela je ilustrirana knjiga Japonskih pravljic, zvezana z japonsko vezavo.

Title:Illustration toward words / Illustrating Japanese fairy-tales
Abstract:
In the theoretical part of the Master's thesis, I explore the concept of illustration, wanting to determine if the relationship between the illustration and the word has transformed in any way with the change of direction the image took in the 1980s. For this purpose, I give a definition of illustration, as well as of its functions and forms. I continue by following and summarizing the views of W.J.T. Mitchell on image changes. In the last chapter, I discuss the relationship between the illustration and the word in terms of the dependency of the illustration on the verbal message all the way to its autonomy – in relationship to the word, illustration can appear in the form of composite art, diaphanous illustration or illustration within a broader illustration. The practical part is dedicated to illustration in the form of composite art; my task was to illustrate a collection of Japanese fairy tales collected and translated by Andrej Bekeš. To accomplish it, I researched the Japanese woodblock prints Ukiyo-e and performed a formal art analysis of a woodblock print from the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts collection. This allowed me to create, in my illustrations, an art language at the intersection between the art language of Japanese woodblock prints and my own. The finished product of the practical work is an illustrated book of Japanese fairy tales with a Japanese book cover.
