Abstract

Title:The influence of basic human values on trust in Slovenia
Abstract:
In the thesis with the name The influence of basic human values on trust in Slovenia I wanted to research the connection and influence of values on social and institutional trust. In the theoretic part I introduced the concepts of trust and social and institutional trust on the one hand and various values models on the other, where I emphasized the Schwartz values theory. Based on the data from European Social Survey for Slovenia for year 2018 I conducted a bivariate and regression analysis and tried to find out whether basic human values self-direction, stimulation, hedonism, achievement, power, security, conformity, tradition, benevolence and universalism have an effect on the level of social and institutional trust in Slovenia. The results of the analysis show that people who value universalism have a higher level of social trust and those who value security have a lower level of social trust. Those who value self-transcendence have a higher level of social trust and those who value conservation have a lower level of social trust. Values universalism, security and conformity have an influence on trust. In the case of institutional trust, I discovered that those who value power and universalism and those who are more educated have a higher level of institutional trust and those who are older have a lower level of institutional trust. All those variables have an influence on institutional trust.
