Abstract

Title:Domestic violence in light of criminal records of the Celje District Court (1920-1929)
Abstract:
The master's thesis deals with domestic violence based on the criminal records of the Celje District Court in 1920-1929. The Austrian Penal Code was still quite outdated during the period under review. Despite the efforts of the authorities, it was not until the late 20s when the new Yugoslav Criminal Code came into force that the criminal law was amended and harmonized. By analyzing court records, I tried to shed light on the cases that the court most frequently encountered during the period under review regarding domestic violence, which were the most common crimes committed within the family. The cases of domestic violence covered included: physical violence, threats, murder, homicide, infanticide, abortion, abortion, incest, abandonment of a child and negligent treatment. In my master's thesis I also try to show who were the most frequent victims of violence and their relationship with the perpetrators. In addition, there are examples of divorces that resulted from domestic violence between spouses in the 1920s.
