The thesis describes the development of an assembly process of a product in one of Slovenian production companies. Using the method of failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) and the method design for assembly (DFA), we were able to develop a product that meets customer requirements functionally, process-wise and qualitatively. Using the methods time measurement (MTM) we successfully planned the number of required workers and balanced pre-assembly operations. Based on calculations and a comparison between the costs of the manual and the automated process, we have demonstrated that the automation of the screwing of the product, in terms of the initial investment and the depreciation period, is profitable. By following the recommendations of the methods referenced above in each phase of the project, we achieved an optimized assembly process. Thus, we shortened the time of assembly operations and reduced the costs and bottle necks of critical assembly operations.
