Abstract

Title:Development and upgrade of a polymer gear testing rig
Abstract:
The polymer gear testing rig which is located in LECAD laboratory offers the means to perform multiple different tests by guidelines for designing polymer gear according to VDI 2736:2014. For example, destructive tests or thermal properties of the gear depending on the load. The testing rig as it exists today, offers only the possibility to monitor these characteristics at fixed ambient temperature, as well as manual monitoring and setting of desired torque, without any control to compensate losses due to gear tooth heating up. This way it is also not possible to adjust the shaft revolution of the rig at all. The goal of this thesis is hence installation of additional components that would be used for controlling the temperature, torque and rotation speed and to write a control program that would consistently track changes and provide a stable set of desired parameters. The scope of this work thus covers the selection and later calibration of appropriate sensors, actuators and other elements required for installation on both the 3D model and the object itself and determining the appropriate control scheme for the entire system. This is followed by the development of a control program in the suitable programming language in conjunction with the current PLC and stability testing of the entire system. Thus, the system will enable the capture of data under controlled conditions, through which it is now possible to test gears in a wider range of operating conditions.
