Abstract
Razprava in zaključek: Paciente s kroničnimi nenalezljivimi boleznimi s pridruženo nespečnostjo je treba spodbuditi k učenju o zdravih spalnih navadah in njihovemu izvajanju.

Title:Nurse role in insomnia of patients with chronic non-communicable diseases : diploma work
Abstract:
Introduction: With aging and prolonging the life span of humans, chronic non-communicable diseases occur. In addition to the problems that older people have because of their chronic illnesses, they also face insomnia and other sleep disorders. Therefore, sleeping hygiene of each individual is very important. Good quality sleep is an indispensable condition for healthy physical and mental functioning. Assisting the patient with various problems is an important role of the competent nurse. It is of paramount importance to inform and educate nurses in the field of nursing who transfer their knowledge to patients. Another important job of the nurse is knowledge and performing of the non-pharmacological approaches to enhancing the sleep quality of patients with chronic non-communicable diseases. Purpose: The purpose of this diploma thesis is to define the role of the nurse and the interventions for patients with chronic non-communicable diseases who have problems with insomnia and other sleep disorders. Methods: For this diploma thesis a descriptive method was used. The domestic and foreign professional and scientific literature was reviewed. Review and original scientific articles, conferences and symposiums were included. Literature published from 2008 to 2018 was used. Results: The nurse, as a carrier of health continuous education, plays an important role in identifying and defining insomnia in patients with chronic non-communicable diseases. For this he or she has available different approaches (conversation, questionnaires, etc.). Also important is its role in educating sleep hygiene and motivating patients to adopt and implement new sleeping habits. The nurse encourages the use of non-pharmacological approaches and monitors if insomnia improves. Discussion and conclusion: Nurses need to have enough knowledge and skills to be able to successfully help patients who are insomniac. The role of nurses in identifying and successfully treating insomnia in patients with chronic non-communicable diseases needs to be further defined and provided with appropriate education and skills acquisition. Research on nursing interventions in patients who are insomniac is modest. Due to the growing number of patients with chronic non-communicable diseases, this area needs to be strengthened in terms of research and educational process.
