Migration then and now. A comparative analysis of the works by Joseph Roth and Julya Rabinowich.
In my bachelor’s thesis I dealt with the subject of Jews migration in the 19th and 20th century. I was interested in how Jews had experienced the whole migration process and what kind of difficulties they had come across. The beginning of the thesis explains the issue with the term "migration literature" and is showed how Jews lived and what their position was in the Eastern European countries before they began to move to the west. In the main part, through several questions that rose while reading the books, I made a comparison between the characters and their approach to solving the problems every migrant faced.
The goal was to answer the question through comparing both books, whether migrants respond equally to the challenges they face abroad. Doing the analysis on both books I concluded that there were more similarities than differences between the characters who sooner or later experienced cultural shock and lost their identity in the process of assimilation.
