The diploma thesis discusses different technologies of 3D scanning. The thesis describes some technologies with emphasis on photogrammetry and 3D structured light scanning.
The goal of the diploma thesis was to describe 3D scanning technologies, their advantages and limitation or disadvantages. The main goal was to test photogrammetry and 3D scanning with structured light and compare the results, to analyse the results of 3D scanning and to establish how these two technologies differ in the final 3D model, to analyse which technology is faster, more accessible, and useful under different conditions. The final goal was to determine, whether there is a way to 3D scan without special equipment with a camera and free open-source software and, for the end result, to still be comparable to the end result with 3D scanning with structured light.
The first step was choosing different objects for scanning. The objects differ in size, texture, colour and shape. The following step was testing both 3D scanning technologies and comparing the best results, of each object, of 3D models.
