Three coordination compounds with benzoic acid anion (C7H6O2 = HL) were synthesized using cobalt(II) nitrate hexahydrate. A neutral nitrogen donor ligands nicotinamide and 2-aminopyridine were additionally added in two cases. Either water or acetonitrile were applied as a solvent. Thus, Co(L)(OH) 1, [Co(L)2(C6H6N2O)2(H2O)2] 2 and [Co(L)2(C5H6N2)2] 3 compounds were isolated. A Co(II) presence in all compounds is most clearly visible within UV-Vis spectra with a band ati 500 nm. The IR spectra reveal O-H and N-H bands above 3000 cm-1 due to different additional ligands besides the initial benzoat anion. A lower magnetic moment value for the compound 1 compared to the others, is in agreement with the UV section of the UV-Vis spectra, suggesting different, probably bridging ligand coordination, only for this compound.
