In my Master’s thesis, I’ve focused on kindergarten professionals attitude towards children that come from same-sex families and are in touch with them on a daily basis.
In the theoretical part, I present the family that is constantly changing and how social parenting looks like. Further, I mainly focus on same-sex families and preschool education.
The Kindergarten Curriculum is a national document, which presents a foundation for a professional kindergarten and preschool education. Among other, it also includes goals and principles of the preschool education.
Kindergarten is a primary place, where a child meets and learns about the outside world, so kindergarten professionals can, unknowingly, affect child’s perception and behaviour later in his life.
In the empirical part of the Master’s thesis, which is based on the quantitative method and also served as an explorative research, the main purpose was to explore the attitude of the kindergarten professionals towards children, that are coming from same-sex families.
The questionaire included 60 (sixty) public and private kindergartens from Ljubljana and it’s surroundings. It helped me to reach the conclusion that:
- kindergarten professionals absolutely want and need more professional education concerning same-sex families,
- there are not many kindergarten professionals that actively use the term same-sex family in the first place, when it comes to discussion about kindergarten families.
I hope, that my research and findings will result in better understanding and greater acceptance of same-sex families and the regular mention of this term in kindergarten, when discussing family issues.
