Economic crime is disabling the economy of a particular country, while its detrimental effects are reflected in other areas of social life as well. Criminal acts and offenses within the area of economic crime are dealt with in the section of criminal law, called commercial criminal law.
Criminal acts of the type of economic crime are mostly included under the chapter Crimes against the Economy, while a smaller number of them can also be found in other chapters of a special part of the Penal Code of the Republic of Slovenia.
In the Slovenian legal environment, the chapter Crimes against the Economy is internally divided into six groups. One of these is a group of criminal acts, which is designed to protect creditors, customers and business partners. This group includes criminal acts of bankruptcy by fraud or fraudulent conduct, damage to creditors, business fraud, security fraud, fraudulent purchasers and unjustified use of a foreign mark or model.
