The thesis describes a quantitative comparison of the encoding quality of H.264/AVC and H.265/HEVC codecs. Based on PSNR and SSIM methodology for video quality measurement, I want to show the progress and effectiveness of the new H.265/HEVC coding standard.
The introductory part presents the objectives of the final thesis and tools that I used to complete my thesis.
The second part explains the operation of compared H.264/AVC and H.265/HEVC codecs.
The third part describes a procedure for comparing the quality of performace of both coding procedures based on PSNR and SSIM methodologies and open source video encoding and decoding software packages, trough which I obtained the necessary data for benchmarking.
The last section shows the result of comparing H.264/AVC and H.265/HEVC codecs on a set of twelve typical videos.
