Abstract
Ekološko, morfološko, hidrološko in fizikalno-kemijsko stanje vodotokov je pomemben posredni pokazatelj stanja ohranjenosti evropsko pomembnih vrst in habitatnih tipov (Natura vrste in habitati). Kazalci so poenostavljeni in prilagojeni specificnim potrebam.

Title:Ecologically-morphological markers of watercourse status as indicators of the conservation status of important European species and habitat types of Natura 2000
Abstract:
Ecological, morphological, hydrological and physico-chemical status of watercourses are important markers of Natura 2000 species and habitat types conservation levels. The proposed methodology combines the results of ongoing watercourse monitoring and evaluation of the conservation status of species and habitats of Natura 2000 as well as data obtained directly from field analysis. 28 indicators have been selected from three established methods, simplified and further adapted to specific needs. The method has been tested on Mirna and Rinža watercourses and reference sites have been evaluated on each watercourse. The ecological requirements of the Natura species and habitats present on reference segments were used for the assessment of watercourse status. A partly modified three-level color scale has been utilized for watercourse status assessment derived from the conservation status of species and habitat types of Natura 2000 in Article 17 of The Habitat Directive. At each reference segment the conservation of riverbed and riverbank, natural hydro-morphological and specific biological structures havebeen assessed along with the impact of water infrastructure and point source pollution on watercourse and riparian areas. All data are available in a special database. Comparison of the results obtained during the study with the results of targeted research studies of individual species indicates that this quick and easy method is efficient enough to be implemented for indirect monitoring of the conservation status of habitats Natura 2000 species and habitat types.
