Municipality Šentjur is located in the eastern part of the Savinjska region and occupies an area from Bohor over Kozjansko to drameljske gorice hills . Forest cover is below the Slovenian average and amounts to 49%. For the municipality Šentjur the potential for the production of wood for energy use in large boilers was determined. The source of data for the research represents data of the national forest inventory and the local energy concept for the municipality Šentjur. Methodological some foreign and domestic research was relied upon. The factors that influence the potential have been determined through SWOT-AHP analysis. Within the limits of the municipality Šentjur there are sufficient quantities of wood for a possible district heating project, but the availability of biomass for now is not satisfying, since it depends heavily on the majority share of privately owned forests and fragmented structure that is present in the vast majority of the municipality, except Bohor. To raise the availability of biomass, innovative measures will be necessary, as well as efforts to join, especially small shareholders, which according to some authors are less willing for cooperation and integration.
