To achieve the goals laid out in the Action plan "Les je lep", it is necessaryto examine the situation in forestry and timber industry, and carry out all the necessary actions. A survey has been carried out among private forest owners and timber companies in order to obtain data for this thesis. The objective of the survey was to determine how well they are trained in logging and harvesting of timber, whether they have the equipment necessary towork in the woods, and whether they are willing to cooperate with the prospective timber-processing centre LPC Šentrupert. The people responding to the survey work in the woods surrounding Šentrupert (a 12 km radius of a circle centered in Šentrupert). The private forest owners are well trained in logging, although 20% remain self-taught. It has been discovered that the greater size of the forest property, and whether the owner does the logging himself, do not determine the amount of training obtained. The survey results have shown that the private forest owners are rather well equipped with chainsaws (93%), and tractors adapted for working in the woods (95%). It has been discovered that the people who own larger forest properties and who obtain more annual income from selling their timber, generally acquire better equipment. The willingness to cooperate with the prospective timber-processingcentre LPC Šentrupert is rather high (77%). It has also been discovered that the age of the forest owners, and their current membership in various forms of cooperation, do not affect their willingness to cooperate with the prospective timber-processing centre LPC Šentrupert.
