Drainage of the road formation of the forest road is essential for maintaining transportability and minimising maintenance costs. Water is a major contributor to degradation of forest roads with its surface flow, material moistening and freezing. In order to limit its negative action, it needs to be drained off as quickly as possible to a ditch or drain, from where it must be streamed through culverts away from the road formation. The purpose of this thesis paper was to analyse drainage on the actual stretch of forest roads. We analysed the condition of elements for draining the road formation of forest road before winter and after spring. We located and analysed all the elements of drainage. We found that the carriageway had been maintained regulary and elements of drainage had been cleaned. The main problem was late replacement of old culverts with smaller diameters. Before winter, one quarter of all the culverts were damaged, but after spring this increased to one third. Furthermore, overly shallow installation was also an issue as this results in frequent damage to the pipe. Moreover, a major problem were also loose discharges and consequently major erosion caused by water. It is, therefore, necessary to secure funding for repairing or replacing pipes in culverts and limit the water flow on steeper slopes (more than 8 %) as in the ditch, on embankments, slopes and ditches on slopes, especially near the road formation.
