Slovenia is a country with a high proportion of private forests that are owned by owners with small and fragmented properties. That is why it comes to problems with forest management. Resolution on National Forest Programme sees the solution in improving the organisation of forest owners and in effective communication which guarantees successful direction of forests development. In the research, we have studied the satisfaction of members of the Society of forest owners Mislinjska dolina with communication and tasks of the Society. We conducted a survey (n = 69) which was divided into four sections and was carried out by mail. The results have shown that, in most cases, the forest owners when they need any information, they turn to their district forester. 62,5 % of respondents say, that the Society fulfilled their expectations and that they are satisfied with their task performance. However, they would like to experience improvements in consultancy in the Society, purchase of working and personal protection equipment, assistance with calls for tenders and more encouragement for inclusion in the association. Furthermore, the respondents have expressed that they are satisfied with the flow of information in the Society, which is influenced by themselves with their activities in the association. Members that are more active in the Society, and members that are more often in collaboration with the Society, are more satisfied with the flow of information. It would make sense if the Society would improve their communication with members, which they can achieve with a preparation of communication strategy that would contain key elements: communication goals, a target group, communication methods, communication theme, responsibilities of management and evaluation.
