In 1993 in the Dinaric frost area Kosmate doline a windthrow occurred. At that time around 400 m3 of Norway spruce trees were felled. In this area we set up 6 research plots, which were used to determinate the rejuvenation of the forest after the storm. Half of the plots were set up on salvaged, half of the plots on non-salvaged part of the surface. With the help of the old military map from 18th century we found out that in the past there was a wider area of forest reserve Zatreb-Planinc covered with meadows. We recorded together 1967 individual seedlings per ha, of which 3167 per ha on salvaged plots, and 767 per ha on non-salvaged plots. Spruce was more abundant on the harvested plots, while on non-salvaged plots beech had higher share. Most of the young plants were found on both surfaces in the second height class (51 % 130 cm). Height increment of young plants was better in the harvested plots. The share of medium and strongly browsed young plants was lower in the harvested plots, other damages were more frequent in the harvested part. Phytosociological analysis showed no significant differences between control and salvaged plots. Differences in rejuvenation are partly due to the salvage logging, and partly due to different slope exposure of harvested plots and control.
