Abstract

Title:Regeneration ecology of tree of heaven (Ailanthus altissima (Mill.) Swingle) in managed forest in Goriško region
Abstract:
In the thesis, we tried to find out how successful is Ailanthus altissima regeneration in managed forests. We were interested in how environmental factors and other tree species affect the regeneration of the mentioned species. For this purpose, we set up two transects at the locations in the vicinity of the seed trees of Ailanthus altissima, which were positioned into the interior of the forest. On each transect 6 plots of size 5 x 5 m were established. The results show that Ailanthus altissima rejuvenates very well with greater proportion of light and near the seed trees. It was also shown that this tree quickly outgrows the native species and occupies the upper social positions and with this decreases the proportion of indigenous tree species. The only tree species that manages to compete with it is the black locust. To limit the spread of Ailanthus altissima in the future, we should pay more attention to the silviculture measures that are already part of the existing forest management. As an example; small surface management under the canopy of the parent stand, and implementation of nursing actions that ensure the best possible stability and resistance of stands to natural disasters. In the thesis, we tried to find out how successful is Ailanthus altissima regeneration in managed forests.
