Abstract
Podatki so bili pridobljeni s pomočjo delno strukturiranih intervjujev in analizirani s pomočjo metode analize vsebine. Nekateri očetje so bili s strani babice in ostalega zdravstvenega osebja v porodno dogajanje vključeni bolj aktivno, drugi manj.

Title:Partners' experiences related to their presence at childbirth : a qualitative descriptive research
Abstract:
Introduction: Fathers are often involved in the childbirth process by accompanying their partners at childbirth. Many fathers wish to be present at the birth of their child, but they often cannot imagine what their role in the labor room would be. The purpose of the study was to look into the experiences of fathers who were present at childbirth. Methods: The study is based on qualitative methodology. The sample consisted of five fathers, aged between 25 to 35 years, who participated at two childbirths at least. The data were obtained by partially structured interviews and analyzed with the content analysis method. Results: Fathers reported that their presence at the childbirth of their child was one of the most beautiful experiences of their lives. However, the experience was described as stressful, but at the same time positive and full of intense emotions. They reported on experiencing feelings such as excitement, anticipation, fear, anxiety, happiness, joy, relief and pride. Some fathers were more actively involved in the childbirth process than others by the midwives and other health professionals. Discussion and conclusion: Fathers wish to be treated respectfully and as equals in the couple who are giving childbirth by midwives and other health professionals. Opportunities for further research could be reflected in the connection of fathers' attendance at childbirth with family and partner dynamics as such. It would be also interesting to obtain the experiences of midwives at childbirth where fathers were present.
