The purpose of the master thesis was to present the purpose of the outdoor education and find out what kind of schools in nature (SinN) are on offer in primary schools in Slovenia and abroad as part of the outdoor education that takes place in the educational system. The master thesis has two parts. In the first part we have analysed the existing evidence on some of the European study programmes which offer outdoor education as part of their study programme for students, future teachers or the providers of such programmes, as well as the course of SinN in some foreign countries, predominantly in Great Britain, Australia and Norway. We established that SinN, or the so called outdoor education, is somewhat different in each of the analysed countries, but in all countries they stress its importance and include it in all levels of schooling. In the second, empirical part, we have checked certain characteristics of the execution of SinN in Slovene primary schools. According to the size of Slovene statistical regions we have selected a proportional number of big and small primary schools from each of them and we have acquired the data about the SinN from their annual work plans on their web sites. The analysis showed that the Slovenian primary schools most often offer the science SinN while among the sport SinN they most often offer the winter one. SinN are most often organized in five days for fifth graders at the end of June and September, and they most often take place at the Centres of curricular and extra-curricular activities. There were no statistically characteristic regional differences in the types and numbers of SinN, but there are statistically characteristic differences in the number of organized SinN regarding the size of the school, since larger primary schools tend to organize more SinN than smaller ones.
