Thesis presents Slovenian military reserve forces. In order to allow full comprehension of its problems and issues it also describes how Slovenian military forces were transformed and reorganised from Teritorialna obramba (Territorial defense) since before Slovenia's independence in 1991. As regular military forces and reserve military forces are tightly connected and interdependent parts of Slovenian military, it is of significant importance for reserve forces how the regular military forces are set up and organised. Every period of Slovenian military transformation and reorganisation faced certain challenges that reflected also in strength of its reserve forces. Today the main challenges of Slovenian reserve forces are lack of staff, reserve contractor's employers and status of reserve contractors.
