Abstract

Title:The outcome of seated slum test and upper limb neural tension test 1 among healthy young adults
Abstract:
Introduction: Neurodynamic tests are used to assess the mechanosensitivity of the neural tissue. The purpose of this study was to determine the outcome of seated slump test and upper limb neural tension test 1 among healthy adults and to identify cut-off scores based on knee and elbow range of motion for test to be positive. Methods: Eighty-four subjects of both genders aged between 18 and 32 were included. Spine mobility was measured first with tape measure and then the neurodynamic tests were performed on the subject’s upper and lower extremities. Results: Of the 84 participants, 79 (94 %) were found to have false positive seated slump test and 84 (100 %) for upper limb neural tension test 1. For positive tests the mean knee flexion angle was 20.25° ± 12.5° (95 % CI: 17.45°-23.05°) and the mean elbow flexion angle was 39.17° ± 9.75° (95 % CI: 37.05°-41.28°). As a possible cut-off for positive tests, 30° knee flexion and 45°elbow flexion were recommended. Conclusion: There was a high degree of false positive tests in both tests which was found to be higher in comparison with previous studies. The validity investigation of the proposed cut-off angles on patients is recommended.
