Abstract

Title:
De Morton mobility index : inter-rater reliability in patients with musculoskeletal impairments
Abstract:
Background: De Morton mobility index (DEMMI) is a standardized measurement tool for mobility assessment and includes 15 items. It is a reliable and valid tool for assessment of patients after hip fracture, with hip or knee osteoarthritis, at rehabilitation and of critically ill patients. The purpose of our study was to evaluate inter-rater reliability of the Slovenian translation of DEMMI used in patients with musculoskeletal impairments, regardless of age. Methods: 38 patients aged from 24 to 85 years with musculoskeletal impairments without or with impairment peripheral nerves participate in the study. Three physiotherapists concurrently assessed their performance with DEMMI. Known groups validity was evaluated. Results: The average DEMMI score of the individual rater ranged from 51.8 to 52.3. Inter-rater reliability was excellent (ICC = 0.99). Participants aged under 65 years (57 scores) had significantly higher DEMMI than those aged over 65 years (46 scores). Conclusion: Slovenian translation of DEMMI is comprehensible. We recommended DEMMI for mobility assessment in patients with musculoskeletal impairments at low and basic functioning level.
