These days cultural heritage is a field that is being researched increasingly more even in the context of war, as it is susceptible to inappropriate management and different injuries that can bring disastrous outcomes. The Second World War brought many changes that people had to adapt to. The new government came into power by means of occupation. As the state museum, The National museum was under management to both the Italian and German occupier. Archival documents present how the museum functioned during that time and how safety of his collections and the museum building was taken care of. Financial resources became limited, the lack of personnel affected the museum as well. Despite this the museum gained quite a lot of new objects for its collections. For safety reasons during the war, museum objects were transferred to the newly built shelter in the basement of the museum. Museum wasn't damaged during the Second World War but only sustained damage due to theft. Also, the museum building suffered because of lack of money during the war. An important milestone for museum that occurred during war time was the establishment of an independent Natural history museum that was before part of the National museum.
