Researches on reoffending are not often found in Slovenian theory and professional literature, except in rough descriptions, does not pay particular attention to this area. Notwithstanding that fact we can detect, also in Slovenia, that reoffending is an indicator of the effectiveness of criminal justice interventions. The introduction briefly describes criminological theories and the purpose of punishment, various definitions of reoffending, that indicate the complexity of the phenomena, the factors that influence on the criminal behavior and the Slovenian penal system of enforcement are described. The empirical part examines the penological reoffending in Slovenia in more detailed scence, which highlights the complexity of researching the phenomena. Reoffenders and their basic characteristics are also described, with intention to find out what made the process of reintegration of offenders most difficult after the sentence had been served. The purpose of this doctoral dissertation is to present the phenomena of reoffending more thoroughly, to illuminate it from different aspects, to point out the shortcomings of research in the Slovenian field and to offer some starting points for further research and development of the enforcement of criminal sanctions.
