One cobalt(II) compound and one nickel(II) compound with citric acid anion (H4L = C6H8O7) have been synthesized. Water molecules and guanidinium cations are bonded stabilizing coordination moieties via net charges and hydrogen bonds. Both compounds are isostructural (CN3H6)8[M4(L)4](H2O)8. The citrat anion in these two compounds is fourtimes deprotonated 4- (L). An isolation of other similar compounds was also tried, however no clear synthesis along with the product characterization was succesfull. IR spectra of the isolated compounds are very similar due to the same coordination moieties. The differences among them are noticed clearly in the UV-Vis spectra due to different coordination spheres as well as another metal ion. The later is obvious especially at the magnetic data for two unpaired electrons per Ni(II) or three per Co(II) the later in high spin arrangement.
