The purpose of my thesis was to research and show the various kinds of passive samplers and illustrate the differences between them. I defined the natural and anthropogenic sources, environmental effects and health effects of atmospheric SO2 and H2S. I described the differences between types of passive samplers, which differ based on their geometry, absorbent or adsorbent, sampling conditions and the analyte itself. Because SO2 and H2S are primarily found in a gaseous state, I focused on the use of passive samplers for sampling from air. I determined whether passive sampling was a suitable choice of sampling in the determination of SO2 and H2S. I proposed a suitable analytical method to determine the concentration of SO2 and H2S after sampling and described the analytical process.
