The use of smartphones is rising sharply, and so is the performance of smartphones. The widespread use and performance itself have given rise to thought about the use of smartphones and related technologies for scientific research purposes. With the development of information and communication technologies and the accessibility of data and knowledge, there is a growing interest in the possibility for the general public to engage with different research groups in different citizen science projects. In this work we look at some examples of published analytical methods where smartphones are used in different ways and the possibility of using such methods in citizen science projects.
