Roses have an indisputable leading role in private gardens. They also appear in public spaces, as some thrive in relatively unfavorable conditions and are characterized by a long flowering period. In public spaces varieties are selected according to various criteria such as resistance to heat, low temperatures and drought, repetitive flowering and ease of maintenance. They can be used to form line plantings, as cover plants, as backgrounds, clusters and rarely as climbers along fences, pergolas and other structures. The study examined the occurrence of rose plantings in different types of public greenspace in the City of Ljubljana, community Bežigrad. Additionally, maintenance and plant condition were assessed and if possible, rose cultivars were identified. Prevalence of individual groups of roses was compared among different public spaces: (1) public areas planted and maintained by the City of Ljubljana, (2) public areas not planted or maintained by the municipality, and (3) semi-public areas of public character, planted and maintained by other commissionaires or civilians. We noted deviations from proper maintenance or placement of roses in public areas. Field research and photography of the analyzed area were the main research methods. The obtained data were statistically processed and the results graphically presented. Surprisingly, the results point out that very few roses in the Bežigrad community were planted and are maintained by the City of Ljubljana. Substantially more rose plants were planted on public and semi-public areas by individuals or communities and are not maintained by the municipality. The varietal and color composition of the roses are not diverse. The area is dominated by rose bushes, followed by groundcover roses and only a few climbing roses. Red roses predominate. In general, roses are maintained satisfactorily, in some cases diseases and pest damage can be observed. For said space to recommend planting varieties ‘Knirps', 'Francis Meilland' 'Leonardo da Vinci', 'Blue for You', 'Summer Memories', 'Sorrento' and 'Knock Out'.
