Online social media networks have changed the reality of new employee searching as well as job searching for both users and businesses. Social media such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter give employers faster and cheaper access to potential new employees, while also allowing them bring their business closer to the wider audience and thus building their business brand. On the other hand, social media has enabled job seekers to present their knowledge, skills and competences to potential employers in a quicker and easier manner. In my master's thesis, I focused on the process of acquiring and selecting new employees through social media based on a sample of answers from HR experts in 10 Slovenian companies. I tried to apply the theoretical framework defined in the first part of the thesis by means of comparative analysis to the results of the actual analysis. The goals were to identify similarities and differences between theoretical framework and actual results of staffing in Slovenia. I based my research on three basic theses, which helped me analyse the importance of social media in the eyes of Slovene HR experts, the kind of employees they are looking for through social media and whether chosen experts have any ethical reservations to the usage of social media for HR purposes.
