The diploma thesis presents an analysis of the treatment of varistor ceramics with the turning process. In this work, reason for choosing the turning process as the machining process is presented. Furthermore, machine tools, devices and the cutting tools used for this research are also presented. Based on the obtained results and key findings, tips for the machining of varistor ceramics are given.
During the machining of varistor ceramics, the following four criteria were monitored and measured: the state of the edge after the treatment of ceramics, wear of the cutting tool, the roughness and parallelism of the treated surface of ceramics. The diploma thesis explains, why these criteria were measured / monitored and what influence they have on the operation of the varistor. These criteria also determine the permissible wear of the cutting tool VBdop, to which they can be used, in order to achieve the required surface quality and the state of the edge of varistor ceramics.
