This MA thesis uses the contrastive analysis of speech acts to discuss the news broadcasts on Radio Trst A and Radio Slovenija radio stations from the point of view of orthoepy and linguistic culture. Firstly, it focuses on the theoretical part in which it briefly presents the language and speech acts, and it stresses the specifics of the language in oral media. What follows is the discussion about the linguocultural activity of the selected radio stations, which is closely connected to the Slovene standard language and to the perception of the latter as a value. This perception assures the development and existence of the language, to which media contribute as well as indisputable co-shapers and preservers of the linguistic norm. In the analytical part, the bases and the results of the research are presented. One announcer of each radio station (Radio Trst A, Radio Prvi and Radio Koper) was chosen for the analysis. The Praat computer programme was used for the auditory and formant analysis with the focus on the analysis of the intonation progress, pace of speech, orthoepic characteristics and possible influence of the phonetics of the Italian language on the pronunciation of the closed /e/ and the closed /o/ by the announcers of Radio Trst A radio station.
