In the Waste management program and waste prevention program from 2016, Slovenia set itself a target of ensuring that the majority of asbestos-containing waste would be safely disposed of by the end of 2030, thereby pursuing the objectives of the European Union. The master's thesis deals with the spatial distribution of environmental pollution by asbestos in Slovenia. We collected and analysed available spatial data on landfills and asbestos waste collectors, locations of former asbestos-producing companies and wild landfills for asbestos-containing building materials. In order to identify asbestos in functionally degraded areas we additionally developed a model in which indicators can be
used to evaluate and show the presence of asbestos. For seven companies that used asbestos in their production, we examined spatial development at production sites and assessed the potential impact on asbestos pollution and human health. Based on the results, we prepared a proposal to deal with the pollution of the outdoor environment with asbestos in Slovenia.
