I am presenting the image of the teacher in Slovenian prose, written between 1855 and 1914, actual position of teacher in this era and his real image. I will also compare them. For easier understanding of the position of the teacher, I will present the most important acts that determined education of the teachers and defined their economic position. These acts are Concordat from 1855 and Third Austrian Law on Primary Education from 1869. I will also present definitions that dictated teacherʼs personality with their real (non-literary) image in pedagogic journal and compare that real image of the teacher with their image in the analyzed Slovenian prose works in which the teacher is the main character or has one of the central roles. I will present activity and organization of teachers in Slovenia. I dedicated a special chapter for female teachers and treated them on the same level as male teachers.
