Abstract
Magistrska naloga obravnava slovenske prevode italijanske literature v obdobju med letoma 1850 (čas pomladi narodov) in 1915 (1. svetovna vojna).

Title:Slovene translations of Italian literature between 1850 and 1915 (literary newspapers and book publications)
Abstract:
The master's thesis discusses Slovene translations of Italian literature in the period from 1850 (the beginning of the Spring of Nations) until the beginning of World War I, i.e. until 1915. The theoretical part contains a description of the translation activity prior to 1850, the attitude towards translated literature compared with original Slovene literature after 1850, the rise of the Slovene press and an overview of Slovene translations of Italian literature in book publications. Only 46 Slovene translations of Italian literature were published in literary newspapers and book publications – the cultural and political situation favored primarily Slovene literature or literary translations of other Slavic nations. Out of all the translations, 13 were published in newspapers and 33 were published in book form. Out of all the translated texts, 28 (61 %) were secular and 18 (39 %) were religious. From the 28 translations of secular texts, 12 were prose texts, 12 dramatic, and 4 poetic. Among the religious texts, there were 8 literary mixed, 6 were prose texts and 4 were prayer books. Most of the 31 authors of the Italian texts are represented by a single work of literature, and most of the 34 translators translated only one such work. The works of the author Silvio Pellico appeared in literary newspapers and in book publications, and the translations of Jernej Križaj Severjev appeared in those two forms as well. The examples of translations are included in the lists, which serve as a detailed overview of the translated works, published in the period 1850–1915.
