Abstract

Title:Findings of Slovenian researches on the impact of family reading in the language development of a child
Abstract:
The bachelor’s thesis discusses family reading as one of the most important factors in speech development of a child as well as a significant factor when promoting literacy in children. The thesis outlines the main definitions and characteristics of both, speech and literacy, and in theory describes the impact of family reading on children's speech development. In the body it focuses on the amount of research that has already been done and its discoveries in this field in Slovenia. It also presents the research methods and findings of crucial researches conducted by Slovenian authors. Consequently, the thesis states that the findings of Slovenian researches are comparable to the findings of foreign researches, as they all indicate that family reading has a direct or indirect impact on the language competence, comprehension and expression of a child, together with the impact on his/her ability to form statements and tell stories. The thesis also attempts to emphasize the importance of the discoveries made by Slovenian researchers in Slovenian and international fields.
