Abstract

Title:Second homes and their owners in the village of Samotorica
Abstract:
The second home phenomenon spread in Slovenia especially in the 1960s as a result of overcrowded cities and the tendency of the city dwellers to retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life and thus spend their free time in the countryside. Second home owners are therefore users of secondary holiday houses or cottages, which in many ways affect their vacant residence in a particular place. The purpose of the thesis is to present the phenomenon of second homes on a specific example of the village of Samotorica, located in the immediate vicinity of Horjul. The survey, based on a literature review and fieldwork, reveals the essential features of building construction and the alteration of the settlement itself, which was also influenced by the second home users. Unlike in many other places, second home users in the village of Samotorica pay attention to established construction practices and place their cottages in the village. Their second homes were mostly built between 1965 and 1975. Thesis shows the involvement of the second home users and their influence on the village and its identity, and pays special attention to the relationship between them and the locals. The village of Samotorica is an interesting example of the coexistence of locals and occasional residents of the village.
