The paper discusses the typology of 261 knives found in early Middle age context in Slovenia. A short summary of slovenian early medieval knife typology is presented. The connection between the blade type and the function of the knife is explained. The knife types are cronologicaly sorted and presented in the wider context of the early medieval Europe. Finally, a short resumé on knife manufacture and the interpretation of the metallographic analysis of the knives from two early medieval sites is discussed.
