The emergence of the internet and the advances in information and communication technology have brought changes to roles of academic libraries and the needs of their increasingly demanding users. The purpose of this study was to investigate the faculty attitude towards The Central Humanities Library at Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana (CHL) and their expectation of the CHL in the future. The survey was conducted between June and July 2019 using a web survey. We found that the CHL is still widely used among the faculty members despite digital resources. They are generally satisfied with the library, the most with library staff and the least with the reading rooms. Electronic databases (either on-site or through remote access), up-to-date library collections and open access shelving were perceived by faculty members as the most important features of academic libraries. Our research also confirmed the previous findings that humanists have a special attitude toward printed sources and consider the archival role of the library important. Just over one half of those surveyed agreed that it is necessary for the CHL to keep printed versions of those scientific journals, which are also available electronically. Opinions on the current organization of the library in several smaller departmental libraries are twofold. Some are satisfied with the current library organization, while others expressed the desire for a joint and modern library. The faculty’s expectations for the CHL in the future are, among other things, that library should provide more space, both for library holdings and users.
